About Us
School Name: Adelphos Taekwondo Academy
In March 1993, Grandmaster Kwang Soo Kim founded Adelphos Taekwondo Academy at Faith Lutheran Church. Our unique school name was chosen because of its meaning. Adelphos means “brotherhood” and “community” and reflects our commitment to serve the people of our local community with quality instruction and training opportunities. Grandmaster Kim served his entire ministry as Pastor at Faith Lutheran Church through which our school operates as a mission outreach to the local community.
School History: 18 Years Strong
All classes were held under the auspices of Rev. Dr. K.S. Kim, until his passing in May 2009. Grandmaster Kim came to Canada by invitation to teach Taekwondo in 1975. Under the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), he was an officially qualified master instructor as well as an international judge and referee. Over thirty-five years ago, he was invited to spearhead the Grande Prairie Taekwondo School in Alberta, which is still going strong. Master Robin Peterman and Master Richard Ashby continue to dedicate themselves to the tradition and development of Taekwondo in Alberta.
Here at Adelphos Taekwondo, all classes continue under the direction of Master John Kim, Master Hunnee Kim and Instructor Kelly Mountain, all of whom are members of Faith Lutheran Church. Since Adelphos is a mission outreach to our local community, we are prayerfully supported by the faithful members of Faith Lutheran Church. Adelphos invites students of all cultures and backgrounds to join our growing Taekwondo community.
Adelphos Taekwondo is a member of the BC Taekwondo Federation, Taekwondo Canada, and the World Taekwondo Federation which is headquartered at the Kukkiwon in Seoul, Korea. As a member school, we participate in numerous tournaments throughout the year, both locally and in Washington State, USA. We also encourage our students to train vigorously and participate in the BC Provincial Championships and nationally.
